Riviera School

Empowering Youth through Architecture

Part of the story: Architecture Demonstrates Its Power to Bring People Together

To allow for greater flexibility and future inevitable changes, the Architect designed a freespan space within each pavilion housing four classrooms. Natural ventilation is achieved in each space by locating operable clearstory windows in each classroom

Designed to create village-like atmosphere with the multipurpose room in the center of activities, this educational campus is the focal point of the local community.

Environment

Flexible environment

Classroom buildings A, B and C have the same long span structural system Open Space is subdivided to respond to functional need

Courtyards

The courtyards in front of each classroom take full advantage of the beautiful climate and are used extensively for educational purposes. Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) recognizes the design by presenting a check to the School District for energy conservation.

Entry

Teaching students the importance of conserving resources begins “by example” with the reduced need for artificial lighting and air conditioning. Believing that each child should have access to tools that will empower them, we work with state decision makers and receive approvals for funding that allows for greater educational opportunities. Designing master plans in the most cost-effective way allows for budget savings that contributes to students’ enrichment and reinforces the link between students, teachers, and community Add Quote: 'Hansen Associates’ professional and personal commitment over the entire duration of the project has been essential to its de-livery. They have brought with their years of experience a unique vision that makes the Riviera School a better place to educate future generations.''
